Hello everyone!
It’s Emi Sensei from AIC Kids Umeda and Miyakojima.
We will go over 5 more EIKEN practice questions! Are you ready?
Books that can be enjoyed by young and old ( ) are rather rare.
① either
② each
③ altogether
④ alike
【Hint】
The sentence means young and old people rarely enjoy the same books. We are looking for a word that means in the same or similar way.
【Correct Answer】
④ alike
Adjective: Similar or the same <- This is the correct definition.
Example: They were so alike, I felt very confused.
【Wrong Answers】
① either
Either is usually used when talking about one of two choices.
old and young are not choices here.
Example: Help yourself to either of the boxes.
② each
Each refers to all of the items in a set or everyone in a group. But old and young are two different groups here.
Example: Each child carried a backpack and sleeping bag.
③ altogether
This word sounds similar to together, but it means all or completely.
Example: We gathered 20 kilos of apples altogether.
